No rush, I'm just so curious as to why our edits sound so different from each other. You seem to get swooshing and I get beeps for some reason, LOL! But thanks alot! Always good to compare notes, especially when you're using the same software. Many people I know that work with audio use Cool Edit Pro and they don't seem to have the problems that I do. I've been thinking of trying it, but I'm not sure if I want to fork out the money if the free program can be used just as well. I want a new dvr first, and a video cam one of these days with good infrared, so I've got plenty of other things to spend money on, LOL, not to mention the gigantic boy I've been feeding. I still swear that boy was switched at birth by aliens.....
But all kidding aside, are you using filters, or noise removal when you edit yours? I usually just use noise removal, since that's most of my problem. I have a digital recorder, so it's not supposed to pick up internal noise, but for some reason it does. I don't really want to use an external mic, only because I think it would increase the range too much. At least with the system I'm using now I know what I'm picking up has to be relatively close to me in order for it to get picked up at all, but I do have the noise problem. Probably my best bet is just a better dvr to lose the noise. But any tricks with the clean up would be great, at least until I decide on a new one.

I use Noise Removal, but I set the removal closer to the "less" end than the "more". I also use Amplify on the section I believe has an EVP. Other than that, I might slow the speed down some or use a little bass boost to try and make out the words a little better.

Hmm, that's pretty much what I do, I remove the least amount of noise I can. I never really edit them much, and I always post the 'raw' evp. I really try not to edit them, most people don't like it if I do. I also feel if I can hear it raw, it's more convincing as evidence. When I clean them, it's usually to see if I can understand what they're saying better. And ugh, I always have to amplify a bit, the recordings come out softer on the computer than the original recording for some reason.

How old is the version of Audacity that you use? I know the one I downloaded recently is slightly different than the ones other members of my group use.

They may sound different because of the equipment the sounds were originally recorded on. Class 'B' and 'C' EVPs are hard to hear anyway. I like the EVPs that do not need cleaning up. If I have to clean them up too much, I just do not bother with them. Squeeks, creeks, and garbled noises are a dime a dozen on a recordng, could be anything; not what I would call evidence. But, then again, that is just me.

Hmm, I'll have to check which version I have, I got it a couple months ago when I got my new computer. I try not to get anything but what I think are words, but I always get a bit of interference and that's mostly what I'm concerned with. I use headphones too, but once I cut them off an original recording if I can't still hear them without the headphones I don't use them. The headphones are more to make sure I don't miss anything important when I go over them. I always do try to only go for what I think are more understandable to anyone with any kind of equipment. Anything lower than that isn't worth the effort in my eyes. I figure if they were never clear in the first place, the critics and skeptics will have a field day. I try really hard to have good quality evidence, but as with anyone in the field, I'm always open to learning more!
Someone made a point on one of my other boards. They said that maybe the people who are more in tune, or connected to the actual spirits would have less trouble understanding or hearing them than someone not so in tune or aware of them. I thought it could be a good point, just like some people can't see or hear spirits at all. What do you guys think on that one? Like even without the evp's, hearing them audibly and understanding what they are saying, or with the evp's picking up on them at all? Hmm, if that made sense, been a long day here, LOL!

I think, just like seeing a face in a tree, you can make words out of garbled noises. And with EVPs, a garbled noise can be anything; radio, tv, cell phone, etc, you just do not know. That is why I do not bother with Class-C EVPs, especially if you have to clean them up in order to "understand something".
I am more interested in the EVPs that answer a question and/or are fairly easy to understand.
I have been clairaudiant since I was a child, so I have heard spirit voices many times. I do not see why that would make a difference with being able to understand a garbled voice/noise on an EVP.

No, guess I said it wrong, don't mean the garbled noises, I mean the ghost voices. Some people just can't hear them, and well someone was saying someone who is more in tune can hear them, and others can't. Don't know, did that make more sense, I'm awfully tired lately, must be all that flu!

In order to hear a spirit voice, without the use of any recording devices, I believe one would have to be clairaudiant, or maybe just lucky once in a while.
Just because someone is in tune with spirits, does not necessarily mean that they can see, hear, and speak to them. I have a friend who has a lot of psychic ability - he can sense spirits, but he has never seen one and hardly ever hears them.
Like anything else in life, we all have our strong and weak points.

I would fall in the "lucky" range, I guess. WHen I was at Eastern State Penitentiary, there were a couple of different occasions where I would walk by a cell and hear "hey you" or "c'mere". Obviously, I'd stop and look there wouldn't be anyone in the cell, but my digital recorder also picked up these voices. Outside of "whispering" sounds I've heard at Point Lookout Lighthouse, I've never heard anything else that wasn't recorded.

I can hear them audibly sometimes too, but not all the time. It makes me wonder why though sometimes I think it's more energy on some occasions and less on others, making them physically audible on some occasions, but only electronically audible at others?

Maybe not. I know a few people who hear/see spirits on a regular basis. They will hear them and I will not.
I know, now you wonder if spirits target certain people to hear them? Or why do they sometimes show up only on a recording? Well, guess we are going to have to die first, in order to find out some of these answers. Personally, I will hold off finding out the answers and just enjoy the ability now!

lol, I agree, lildeb. I don't need to know the answer to that quite that bad lol

I feel the same way; just do not need to know all the answers. I am just happy to be able to communicate with the other side, and I just do not care how or why it is done. And yeah, I can wait to find out the answers too, for a looooooooooooong time!! LOL

Well to each their own, lol, I can't help but be curious! I don't want to know badly enough to have to die for it, but I do believe we can find some of the answers as we are living and learning more about science and the nature of the universe. I always thought people got into investigating because they were searching for answers, but I admit, I have fun investigating too!! Guess we're all cracked I'm sure most people would much rather go to a movie than hang out in some haunted place for hours!
