I guess they don't have a specific date. They just say, pre-1700's, so I'd say some of the graves must be from the 1600's. I know at one time this whole area including New Bedford was known as the township of Dartmouth, around the mid 1600's, I'll have to look up in my notes for the exact date. Later it split up into towns and the city of New Bedford. Glad you enjoyed the pictures. Acushnet is the town I grew up in! When I lived there, the population was a bit over 800, now it's over 10,000!!!

The Cape Cod/Plymouth area has gravestones dating back to the early to late 1620s. Some are still readable; but depends on what they were made out of and how they weathered; not to mention being tampered with by man. Plymouth, MA has the older stones. The further out you get from the Cape Cod/Plymouth area, the newer the dates get. (if you want to call 1700 newer)  Just the way the area was settled. Most New England cemeteries look pretty much the same as the pictures above. >^o.o^< |
