Bigfoot part 1: Sasquatch Ask and ye shall receive…. Seeing as Bigfoot is such a broad subject that spreads throughout the world this is the first of the series.
This month’s creature is the Sasquatch. The Sasquatch is for those unaware is believed to be an ape like creature often found in the Northwest ern United States and Canada. Generally described as being between 7 to 9 feet tall covered in dark brown, black fur. Foul orders seem to linger as many people who encounter the Sasquatch smell feces or strong overpowering musk. Formal use of "Sasquatch" can be traced to the 1920s, when the term was coined by J.W. Burns, a school teacher at the Chelhalis, BC Indian Reserve. Burns collected Native American accounts of large, hairy creatures said to live in the wild. Native Americans called these beasts by various names, including 'sokqueatl' and 'soss-q'tal'" . Burns noted the phonetically similar names for the creatures and decided to invent one term for them all. The Sasquatch is also interpreted in various forms of Native American artifacts like face masks and carvings in stone and wood. With Washington State having the greatest number of sightings the Sasquatch is still at large and elusive as ever.
