ELVES
Sorry about the long delay Folks!!! Holiday Hustle, Flow and Bustle of the Holiday season.
This month’s Creature of the Month (what’s left of it) is the Elf.
Most know the Toy making, candy cane eating little guys from our favorite holiday movies but the Elf first appeared in Norse folklore; commonly called alfar; . Elves were depicted as pranksters and according to legend would sometimes cause diseases and were the bringers of bad dreams. (The German word for nightmare is alpdrucken or albtraum which means “elf-pressure”.) Although Elf mythology is mainly Norse the legend spread across Europe. Most descriptions of Elves are of youthful looking men and women living in the woods and forests, in wells and underground. Generally thought to be immortal, Elves are thought to have a connection with the living and the dead, connection with the living, being a control over nature and a sort of “oneness” with its surroundings especially in the forest. The connection with the dead, it is thought in some lore, that Elves are the guardians of lost souls and who are themselves indeed souls of the lost. The Elf mythos is dated even before St. Nicholas, who lived more than a thousand years ago, which would mean Elves are older than Santa….who’d a thunk it…..

Oooh, I have a feeling lildeb is going to be a very happy camper!! You gave her the elf!! I'd never heard the Norse tradition of elves! Extremely interesting! I had no idea they thought them to be bringers of nightmares, in all the books I've ever read, elves are good guys, LOL!
Hmm, ya didn't happen to leave an elf at lildeb's house did ya?? She won't be happy with you if this elf disturbs her sleep!!!

Nahhh, for the most part, the one in my cellar is not all that bad. As long as it stays down there, does not bother me much.

No, no, no, lildeb! When someone offers you a nice Legolas elf, you take him, LOLOLOL!! He doesn't have to mess with the elf in the cellar, but I'm sure he can find ways to make you smile! And damn, he's good with a bow and arrow, so any burglars are done for!!!
