Hello, Just to say first that Spooky Southcoast is my number one podcast on my Ipod.
My story is from 1978. Yes, I realize that is before most of you were born but anyway....My new husband and I were living in a downstairs apartment in the older section of town. We had not lived there very long before we started hearing a really weired sound. The only way to describe it is, well, it sounded like one of the old time medal ice trays with the handle you had to pull back to break out the ice....It happened without any sort of style of frequency or time of day or length of time that it would go on. The noise was the same loudness (volume) everywhere in our two bedroom apartment. It didn't matter if you were in the kitchen or in the far bedroom ... it all sounded the same. We could not hear it from outside however ( and believe me we tried!) The walls of this apartment were thin but this sound is not like anything but a darn icetray. I might note that both us and our upstairs neighbors had automatic icemakers in our frige. Like I said it would happen at any time of the day or night and for different lenghts of time. Well, we looked for every cause possible. We had our refrigerator check out to be sure it wasn't the "defrost" mode making the sound. The pipes were good for the plumbing, there were no loose lights or wall hangings. We wiggled EVERYTHING in that place. We even stole the person's wind chime from across the walkway thinking that might be it. This went on the entire 6 months we lived there. (Guess why we moved?) Another odd thing that happened was the first time we had guest over for dinner. Just as I placed the main course on the middle of the table our light above the table fell off and landed in the center of the main course. It broke the light bulb and a piece of the glass, very sharp, was stuck straight up in a stick of butter that was on the table. A plate (you know one of the corning plates that supposely won't break) smashed into a thousand pieces.
