Thanks ashleigh - LOL! A dyslexic moment on my part; sorry about that aneaglesangel.
It is so hard to tell, sometimes, if something is paranormal or just an overactive imagination run-a-muck. I guess one of the best indicators would be experience. The more things happen the more notes you have and the more you can analyze them.
I had heard bits and pieces about shadows over the years, but never knew a lot about them. However, like aneaglesangel said, I kept dream journals as well as day to day journals; been doing that for years. When I officially got into ghost hunting, that's when I started doing research for my presentation on them. I went back to my old journals from 5 to 10 years ago, and found that a lot of the information that I wrote down then correlated to the information I was finding out about Shadows now.
I have had paralyzing moments as well. One morning I found myself sitting up in bed, and when I inadvertently looked over my shoulder, I saw myself laying down asleep. It scared the crap out of me, and I remember a flash and the sound of electrical current and being pulled back to the bed. I opened my eyes, could hear birds chirping out my window, but I could not move for the longest time. Come to find out, I caught myself in an out of body experience. Not knowing what it was at the time, I scared myself back into my body. I remember thinking that something was in the room with me controlling me or something, but that wasn't so. I have also heard of sleep disorders that will cause a paralized state.
Again, I agree with aneaglesangel when she says that you have to start with the reasonable explanations first. I guess the main thing would be not to jump to conclusions. Not everything weird that happens is a paranormal event. Sometimes I think people want it to be a paranormal event so bad, that they will unconsciously embellish things that happen to make it sound that way.

Actually, people can MAKE the paranormal happen! I've read a bit about it a long time ago, I think they call it spontaneous manifestations or some such thing nowadays. A professor did an experiment on them and found that just by telling people they would experience the paranormal at a certain place, they would make it manifest. They did table levitations and everything, just because they BELIEVED it was going to happen, so yes, research, careful observations and keeping records is the best bet. I think the only way to really find the paranormal is to keep at it, keep good track of it, and keep reading and learning along with it. Just in the few years since I last researched, there have been many changes, it's like cars and appraising them, which is what I do, they constantly change, new technologies become available and old things become obsolete. It's a constant battle to stay on top of information. So lildeb's right, it's important to keep track.
LMAO @ lildeb, by the way, LOL!! Did you jump out of your body accidentally too?? I did that once, it scared the heck out of me!! I was in a car going somewhere, don't remember where, but suddenly I was floating on the ceiling of the car, looking down at myself! I jumped right back into my body so fast!!! I believe there was some type of electric feeling tingle when I got back in, but I'll never forget that! Now, I'm working on trying to do it purposely and it's much harder to do on purpose!! LOL!!

Yup, manifested thought forms - I've mentioned them a few times before. The power of suggestion is a very powerful thing.
You do have to be careful what you pick to read thought. There are lots of books, periodicals, stories, pictures, and video footage out there that isn't accurate or even true. Recently, I was viewing some footage on the internet about orbs; just some random websites, and they made me laugh. These people who professed to be Paranormal Investigators were claiming to have video footage of orbs and all it was was dust flying through the air. Some people want to believe so badly that they see something, that they will make something out of nothing. It's pretty sad, and unfortunate for people that are trying to learn. Then again, you can't believe everything you see on the internet.
I agree that reading and keeping track of things is a good idea. But instead of trying to keep track of all things paranormal, I think it's a good idea to pick something in the realm of the paranormal that interests you and concentrate on that. If you try to go in too many directions at the same time you get nowhere.
Sometimes 'old things' can be better than new technology. I tell you what, I will trust my gut feelings over any new technology that comes around. After all these years, my gut feelings have yet to fail me! >^o.o^<

Ok, ladies. I usually have two different types of experiances. The normal, everyday, crazy stuff that happens to me that I have gotten used to over the years. And then I have this other type of experiance like the one I had posted this about. I have the big scary kinds of happenings about once a year, occasionally more. Something strange and scary happened to me last night. Im still shaking. I read one of yall say something about sometimes just knowing somewhere is haunted. Well, sometimes I just know when something scary is about to happen. And I often know how to prevent it. Problem is, sometimes the way to prevent it is not available for me to do due to living at home. Like, just leaving the house. Or being with a certain person will stop it from happening. I told my mom about these scary experiances once when i was younger but she is a psychologist and laughed it away to my imagination. I havent told anyone anything about these happenings since. Accept when I called into Spooky Southcoast. And I just told my boyfriend about it last night, at least the whole story not just small parts. It terrifies me. Nothing terrifies me. I am about to get two degrees, one in Psychology and the other in Criminal Justice, and I study some scary stuff everyday. The reason Im posting about this is because for the first time, last night it actually got violent. Its always the same. Its a faceless man. He comes into my room, exciting my dogs. Last night, i actually heard the door open. I heard him open the top of my fish tank (which after this whole thing, three of my fish were dead). The power in my house went out before he came in, and that was new. My dogs started growling and barking, but I couldnt move. I was on my side, facing away from the end of the bed he was on. So I knew after I heard the fish tank top shut that he had walked behind where I was. He didnt move. I closed my eyes and kept thinking certain things about wishing my boyfriend hadnt left the house and some other things. Then I blurted out without thinking,"Im not afraid of you. You cant hurt me. Leave me alone" It was quiet, and then something scratched me. Like a cat clawing me. Five times. Neither one of my dogs could have done that because the scratches were too small, like a cats and because they werent in the area. Then my dog Maddie went crazy snapping at the air and she was what looked like slapped down off the bed. I started crying and then my cell phone rang. The power came back on when that happened as well as the fish tank light showing three of my fish floating at the top of the aquarium. It was my boyfriend saying he had gotten some text messages from me. I didnt text him. And they were wierd cause the stuff written were things I was thinking during this whole thing. He freaked out and said he was coming over. Oh, and there was encrypted writing and symbols on the text before the english part. And one of the texts had a picture, but his phone doesnt support picture files. I had not even had time to fall asleep before it all happened. But I knew all day it was going to happen. So, Maddie is ok, no serious injury. Mac is ok, a little shakin up I suppose. I am seriously confused. How can this happen. I fell apart crying last night. I thought that they couldnt hurt you. I bite my nails, almost too much, and so I couldnt have done this to myself even if I tried. I explored many options, but I can find no reasonable explaination. I need someone to help me to stop this from happening. I know yall are trying to help me find out whether or not it is even a paranormal happening, but I already know it is. Now, I need help making this stop.

Wow! That was pretty rough. Glad to hear that you and the puppies came out of it okay. Not to minimize what happened to you, by any means, but you did say that you are studying psychology and criminal justice, and in your words; "I study some scary stuff everyday". When I first read that, thought manifestations came to mind. I'm not saying that's what it is, but could be part of it. You said a faceless man; that made me think of Shadow People. You might have scratched yourself somehow without realizing it. As far as the fish, might have just been their time to go. You also said, that for the first time, things got violent. Well, I am guessing that you had read the stories that aneaglesangel had posted. They could have been lingering in your subconscious and helped to fuel what happened. Another thought manifestation maybe? Also, think about (and write down) things that may have happened to you recently that could have fed into something like this happening to you. Like I said, I am not minimizing, just trying to rationalize. I find that when something happens and scares the s**t out of me, I write as much down as soon as I can. Then I go back over my notes and come up with as many rational thoughts as I can to what happened. It's not easy; it's hard to look objectively at something like that when it happens to you. But if you automatically start thinking the worst possible scenario you'll only cause yourself more anxiety and trouble. Psychology is my minor; we both know how the mind can play tricks especially if we are stressed or holding onto unfinished business. Stress and anxiety can manifest themselves into physical sickness so it only makes sense that it could also, possibly, manifest itself into thought forms that seem real. I know, you're probably rolling your eyes at this point. I'm not the type that jumps to conclusions; or at least I try really hard not to and if I do I take a step back. I'd be no good as a ghost hunter if I did jump to conclusions when I either hear a story or if something happens to me personally. Okay, rational thoughts put aside now............... Whatever it is, sounds like it is feeding off of your fear. Yelling that you were not afraid of this 'thing' was a good move on your part - good for you!! However, if you are screaming something like that while you are scared, IT knows that you are scared and really don’t believe what you are saying. After the initial shock has subsided, as hard as it is to do, try to be as assertive and confident as you can be when you proclaim that ‘it can’t hurt you’ and ‘ you are not afraid of it.’ You could always try smudging and/or salting your house. Before you go to bed at night, or any time that you feel uneasy, you could invoke the white light / holy spirit / or whatever divine protection you believe in. You could look into carrying or wearing protective amulets or stones with you as well. Whatever you pick to do, the trick is to truly believe that these things will work for you. You might even want to think about speaking with a psychic. They may have some insight as to what is happening to you and why, and may also have a way to help you. Ask around and find someone reputable, might take you a while, but would be worth it. I do believe that you believe that what happened to you was real! Noone but you knows that for sure, we weren't there with you. And when you are in the middle of an event like that it's very hard to get past the scare and look at it from other angles. That is what I was trying to do for you; I hope that some of what I said did help. Stay strong ashleigh, you'll be okay (insert big hug here). Please keep us posted. >^o.o^<

Oh ashleigh, what a night! You've got some great advice as usual, from lildeb!! I know it's very hard to look at all the rational explanations, but it's very necessary! I spent years reading all sorts of books trying to find that reasonable explanation, it just never came for me. I really do hope that reading my stories has not caused this to manifest for you! It was not my intent at all, I really hoped only to make people feel that I was safe, so they wouldn't worry about me.
Things like this to me, have one priority, and that is getting to the bottom of what is going on. To keep the journal would be great, I know it's hard to do when you're upset and frightened. It feels very violating to have a spirit coming into your home and messing with you. But we first have to make sure that is what it is. I can't rule out sleep paralysis in this case, though you say you weren't asleep this time.
Now you also say you knew all day this was going to happen. That in itself can make phenomena manifest itself. It has been proven to happen, if people expect activity, they get it, heck they create it somehow. So we have to also work with that. I think if you have that feeling again, try to deny it. Tell yourself, out loud that it will not happen because you don't accept that. You don't allow it. I like how lildeb says to be firm, yes, it is hard, but if it is an entity of any type, you'll need that in order to free yourself. I like the idea of finding a psychic and I never would have thought of that! I'm sure it will take a bit of a search to find a good one in your area. But, if the psychic is good, it may be invaluable to you in the end!! We're all behind you!! Stay strong hon, and here's some really big hugs for you!! Keep us posted!! I hope this helps!!! Though I know it will! It all goes with my power of positive thinking! We're all behind you, giving you our good thoughts, take it, hold onto it tight, and use it as a weapon!! It's not just you, you've got a whole army behind you! You don't stand alone, united you stand agaisnt whatever may come your way!! Good luck! ((Extra hugs, just in case!!!))

Thanks for putting that all out for me! But, here is why Im convinced.
Thought manifestations sounds like a possibility. Like I said, I dont really know what it is.
I cannot scratch myself. When I said I had no nails to scratch with, I meant I actually bite them down to the farthest possible point. Its an old habit I havent been able to rid myself of. Like I literally have very little nail and its so short it doesnt go past the end of my finger or even extend from the nail bed. And the scratches were so small, like a cats scratch.
I had checked my fish and can see them clearly from my bed just before the power went out. All were fine. I have had a fish die here and there, but three within a span of 5-10 min?
I had only partially read the story about negative energy feeders by aneaglesangel. But, I think after Im done posting this Ill read more! You just got me curious.
I do write everything down, I have since I was 13. But my boyfriend experianced some of this firsthand as well. Just before he left my house, he heard unexplained scratching noises and whatnot. And I know those can be explained reasonably, but then you have the text messages I didnt send that he got from my number. What I need is for someone to point me in a direction to get in touch with someone. As for psychic, I wouldnt even know where to start! I come from a conservative christian home that doesnt "believe" in the paranormal, even though it has shown itself to them over and over again. They are very good at denial, and I was punished as a child if I brought it up or asked them for help. Where do I get protective stones or amulets or whatever! I dont even know of any store that would sell those types of things. Thanks for the hug! (insert hug back to ya here) Help me find the resources in my area. I have looked but have had no luck. : (

Okay, got it about the scratches. But, are you sure that one of the dogs didn’t catch you with a rough claw in your sleep maybe? Also, could have been something that you got earlier in the day and didn’t realize it. That happens with me with scratches and bruises all the time.
As far as the fish, well…………maybe the power going out shocked them somehow, or like I said before, maybe it was just time for them to go, all three of them within 5-10 minutes might have just been the norm for those fish. Sometimes the answer is very simple, and we shouldn’t try to read too much into it.
Okay the text messaging…..I am guessing that you didn’t text anything to your boyfriend earlier in the day? I have sent out text messages and people have not received them for an hour or more. I guess if there are storms or the network is all jammed up that can happen. Paranormal activity does make electronics go haywire and drains batteries. So that one is puzzling.
Picking a psychic isn’t all that easy, unfortunately. There are so many scam artists out there and they are not all that easy to spot. You could always try herb shops or metaphysical stores; that’s generally a good place to start. These kinds of places could help send you in the right direction. Of course you don’t want to go in there saying, “I have a problem”. Just start visiting them on a somewhat regular basis and get to know the people that work there, and while you are there listen to what people are talking about and saying. Also check message boards and look for flyers. You would be surprised how things work out if you put energy and thought out there that you are truly looking for someone responsible and honest to help you out with this problem you are having.
The next time you are in a bookstore, look through a book called Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic by Scott Cunningham. This book was suggested to me years ago, and I keep suggesting it to people as well. The whole protection thing is partly in the mind and partly in the item that you choose. You could always go into a shop that has a large assortment of tumbled stones, and see which one attracts your attention. Sometimes the right one will find you instead of you trying to find it. One of my favorite stones is Hematite, it is a gray iron ore; beautiful when it is tumbled. This is a calming stone, helps to keep you grounded and dissolves negativity. I always have a string of them in my car wrapped around my gearshift (warding off the negativity of road rage).
If you still follow your Christian beliefs you can always turn to them for help as well. It all comes down to, whatever you are comfortable with and whatever works for you the best.
If you would like more information or to get into this a little more, I would be more than happy to chat with you privately; so email me if you want. And, just for the record, all of this stuff with amulets and protective stones has to do with my personal beliefs and such. They have nothing to do with my ghost hunting. We don’t get into that sort of thing.
Hope this info helps you out. I'll send some positive thoughts your way ;D - (more big hugs) >^o.o^<

Lildeb's got some great ideas there for you! It will be hard to find a good psychic and it looks like you've got some great places to start! The thing is, is that what you believe in? Or are you more christian? That is important, for the items you choose for protection have to be something you believe in. I like how lildeb put that, it's half the mind and half the item! If you have the most powerful item in the whole wide world, it still won't work if you don't believe it will. I know that when I prepared to try to get rid of the negative energy feeder, I started with myself first. I studied shamanism and did a medicine wheel. I had never been involved in native american culture before, but it just felt right. Funny years later I find out there is Indian blood in my ancestry, LOL! So you've got to go with what feels right for you. Maybe a church in the area that you feel comfortable with, maybe some crystals, information and a psychic. The most important thing is how it feels to you!! Good luck hon, here's more hugs to add to lildeb's!!!

One more note on psychics. The one thing you don't want to end up doing is running around from one psychic to another and believing in everything they say. I have several friends who are psychics and am not downing them by any means; however, sometimes people get all wrapped up in what psychics say that they fail to go along with their own gut feelings and intuitions. And relying totally on what others have to say about your life and what's going on with you, can make you paranoid and start to drive you a bit crazy. I remember the first Tarot card reading I went to......the woman was a psychic, so she said. Well, I sat there stone faced with my hands folded on the table and forced myself to keep that stone face. There was no way that I was going to let her 'read' my reactions. Most of what she said could have applied to anyone; i.e. "The person in your life with an M name that is going to help you." Oh please Another time, at a different reading, I reacted to what was said, even if something didn't really apply to me. It is amazing how a raised eyebrow and a bit of a stunned look can make someone think they are on the right track and they take off with it. Don't get me wrong, there are some reputable psychics out there, they are just hard to find. There was one psychic that did amaze me though. I didn't know this woman but was referred to her. She not only gave me my maternal Grandparent's names (Mary and Henry) but also gave me the pet names that they called each other! Now, this woman was either a really good psychic or a mind reader - LOL. I do hope that things have calmed down for you. >^o.o^<

LOL! It sure is hard to find someone good! I've tried a few of the same things you tried, lildeb! I've never gone to a psychic and paid money for them to give me a reading, but I've been to a few places where psychics were. They tried to read me, they were dead wrong. I do remember going to a psychic fair that was in my area a few years ago. It was kind of funny, they were chasing me and my youngest son around! There was one who said I glowed, LOL, but described it the same way my baby son had. Yes, my youngest was a trip when he was a baby, I'm almost glad he doesn't seem to do it anymore, LOL! This same psychic said I had spirits all around me. I tried not to raise my eyebrows, but this was when I was still being attacked by the negative energy feeder and I was afraid of all spirits because of it. I didn't want to believe her, but I guess she was right. If I ever see her again, I think I'd try a reading!

I have to laugh when a psychic says "there are spirits all around you". Well, DUHHHHHH!! Aren't they everywhere? It would be overwhelming if we were able to see all the spirits around us.
I'm sure not all, but some probably use that line to lure people in. >^o.o^<

LMAO!! I dont' know, I think I'd take pictures, LOLOL!! Wouldn't it be nice if they had a psychic listing?? Ya know, like the ones that rate hotels and such!? Then you could tell by the psychic's ranking if they are good or not! Hmm, but then again, there's probably ways to get around that too!

Or have psychics listed in a consumer reports type of thing. That would make it soooo much easier! Still looking for something in my area to help me. Im about to try emailing Keith to see if there is someone in my area he knows can help me. I would rather someone I feel knows what they are talking about refer me to someone than me finding someone on my own.

That's a great idea ash! I did list his website in the other post about the demonology and angelology thread, but I'll list it here too. They have a demonologist forum that I visit regularly and it's a good way to get in touch with him! Tim also listed his e-mail so you can get in touch directly!! Check that thread so you get in touch with him, ok?? Here's Keith's address for his site, go say hi at the forum too! www.nearparanormal.com See ya there!
