Hi all , first time posting here and I love your show. Very interesting guest and a lot of neat topics. Any way I caught this photo at a local block party. Even though I am sure this photo outcome has to do with my camera settings at the time it was taken it is still kind of trippy when I first came across it. I don't remember any kids running through my shots at the time an I looked through the 100 or so shots I had of this event and can't find any kids that had on pink shows or dark shoes with green socks. Made me sit back and go hmmmmmmm? This is an 8 meg picture taken with my canon eos 30d. This is as big a file as I could get hosted at the photo sites. The bigger image looks better.

I think you had a long exposure time and a child ran through it. I think there may be three children there in that pic. They sure are funny colors they are wearing though! Where are ya from? I haven't seen a block party in ages!!

It definitely had a long exposure. I am from California, San Jose. One of the families sets this up every year with jumpers and bbq and shuts off the street. A chance to get to know your neighbors. I hope nobody thinks I am trying to pass this off as ghost pictures it just grabbed my attention and thought it would be a neat ice breaker.

That's ok, dip! Noone will jump down your throat for wanting to learn about photography. I think it's great that your neighbor organizes such a thing! I'm not too sure I want to know all my neighbors here in the city, LOL!! Half of them don't speak English anyway, LOLOL!! I have to admit, you've got a nicer cam than I do, now I'm drooling over your cam, LOL!!
Just a note, if you ever need service, which I just recently did, Canon is da bomb!! They take good care of it, and get it back to you pretty darned quick!! My cam just got a new optical unit, had the focus adjusted and was cleaned very nicely! My cam had a white line in all the pics and I knew the darned focus was off! I just hope it stays all set now, they only guarantee the repairs for 3 months!
Next time when you're outside, just don't use such a long exposure during the day and you'll be fine. I'm working on low light photography so I can get nightshots that come out pretty good without flash. The only thing with that is, a tri-pod is a must!!
Good luck with your pics! Maybe if I ever get out to California, I'll join ya at your next block party!!!

Yeah, the entire picture is fuzzy. I have a few like that myself, they can hit you funny when you first see them.
Block parties? There is one in my neighborhood at the end of the summer every year. Just had one about 3 weeks ago. With busy schedules, it is the only time I get to see some of my neighbors.

Wow! Awesome!! I really love the mountains and hills you guys have over there! I've seen some pics of Blackstar Canyon, is that anywhere close to you?
I hear you about the lens! I want the telephoto lens myself, LOL! I like getting shots of things in nature and a telephoto lens would be great to have for that!
If ya can't work up the courage to go to the cemetery at night, why not go in the daytime? I do alot of shots of cemeteries during the day. I need to get a partner for night work in the cemeteries around here, but even so, the day shots are nice, people still get a good feel for the place! Either way, I look forward to seeing the pics!!

The pictures are beautiful, thanks for sharing them. How long has this place been abandoned? The area is very interesting. I am guessing that there are no actual tours, the area looks pretty run down and dangerous.
The only thing I would worry about, as far as going to this place at night, is any wild life in the area and any live people that might be in the area. The place might not even be haunted, but if it is, the spirits would be the least of your problems in a secluded area at night.

There isn't much to worry about in the human part of your equation due to the fact that it is a public or state park or something to that effect and nobody lives close to there. Animals, deer, snakes coyotes maybe, small mountain lions. Nothing much more beyond that but something I would definitely take into consideration. As for Blackstar Canyon thats down in orange county by LA I am in northern CA by San Francisco. Been to Orange county but never there. But we do have the winchester Mystery house down the block!

The human (living) part of the equation is always "much to worry about". Do not let the fact that nobody lives near this place fool you. Crazies and perverts can show up anywhere - and the more remote the area the better sometimes.
Best to take a couple of people with you, even in the daytime if it is that remote, and a couple of cell phones just in case. Good idea to let people know that you are going to be there too; as well as your arrival and departure times and what time you plan to be back home.
If it sounds a bit over-cautious...........IT IS!! Better safe than sorry.
