Here, I added a blog about this to myspace. I figured it gave better information and history for you. I was originally hoping to get these on before the show, so the guys could tell you more, but hey, sometimes things don't go as planned, LOL!
WCG and Spooky Southcoast at Millicent Library!
Friday the 13th was an exciting day for WCG! Not only did we get to once again work with the Spooky Crew, but we were allowed to enter areas in the Millicent Library that are not normally open to the public! Even without the stories of haunts prowling the stacks of books, this is one beautiful historic building that is worth the trip!
Due to the fact that the library was open to the public during our investigation, we did not run EMF or temperature readings. The air conditioning was running in many parts of the building and would have compromised these readings. Digital recorders were run during our time there, and will be reviewed this week, along with the video we ran during the investigation. Numerous still shots were taken and are also being reviewed. Though there is one anomoly in one of my shots in which it appears a head is protruding from a wall. This photo is still being reviewed, but is the most interesting shot for paranormal activity in my set of still shots.
The Millicent Library was dedicated in 1893 to Millicent Rogers, who died at the young age of 17, due to heart failure. She had always been a sickly child, who spent most of her time absorbed in a book. It was her wish that the children of Fairhaven had the same access to books that she had. She realized that due to her family's prominence in this area that she had a privilege that most didn't. To a sickly child like Millicent books were a treasure!
There are many rumors of the Millicent Library being haunted. There are stories of Millicent's apparition being seen wandering the library. Reports of a janitor seen in the basement mopping the floor, wearing a tweed jacket, small round glasses and purple bow-tie circulate as quickly as the books do. A woman dressed in black has been seen walking the stacks of books running her fingers along the shelves of books. There are stories of Millicent's grandmother, Rhoda Merrihew Huttleston not resting easily.
We interviewed the Library Director, Carolyn Longworth who has been with the library for many years. Though she has never experienced any activity in the library, she is open to the possibility that it is haunted. During the interview, we learned that she knew the janitor who died in the library. It is said that he died while mopping the basement floor, due to a slip and fall. This is entirely untrue, just as the description given of him is not true. He did pass away inside the library, but it was due to heart failure, and it was just after he entered the library, first thing in the morning, as he reported to work. Other employees found him as they entered the library, alarms blaring, for he never got a chance to shut them down. Though WCG does focus on scientific research, we are open to experimenting with the metaphysical aspects and have done some experimentation with pendulums. According to the pendulum, Millicent is not at the library, but her grandmother, Rhoda, and the janitor still wander the building.
As for myself, I do believe there is a spirit or two residing at the Millicent Library. I would enjoy returning and keeping an ongoing investigation going at this building which has always caught my eye! Any time the Millicent Library invites us, we'd be honored and extremely pleased to return. I wouldn't mind meeting Rhoda and understanding what gives her eyes such a sad, faraway look. I'd like to hear from the janitor why he stays on, keeping watch over his building. Does he know that his time card was punched for the last time in this world? Or does he believe he's still on the job? Is there a woman dressed in black who wanders the halls, running her fingers down the spines of books, and the occasional library patron? If the Millicent Library staff remains open to investigators entering, maybe someday we'll have the answers!
A special thank you going out to Carolyn, and all the employees of the Millicent Library who were so helpful and open to our presence! Thanks John, it was great seeing the tower!!

Oh, and guys, was listening to the podcast today. I'm not talking about the blue reflection of the window on the chair, I'm talking about the head shaped thing coming out of the wall behind the bench where you took a picture of mme and I. I'm pretty sure the blue spot you're talking about is just a reflection from the window. I really can't think of anything sticking out of the wall behind that bench, and since I was sitting there, I would have had to put my head forward to avoid it, if it was there! Hmmm!
Hey guys....saw the blog you put up on the main site just a minute ago. I'd looove to have copies of all the pictures you took, those are great, but I also noticed, there is a box on the wall where I took that questionable shot. Could you post it for me or send it to me, so I can try to figure out if that's what I see on the wall in my shot? Thanks!

Oh well, I've noticed what caused my anomoly, LOL! None other than a possible thermostat box, and a sign. I'd rather be on top of things and notice it, than to have missed it, even if it did turn out to be a box and a sign, LOL! I'm glad I had other angles of this from everyone else to be able to determine what caused it. Maybe next time we'll be lucky enough to catch one of the spirits on film, if they do, indeed, still walk the aisles!

I have always found that it is a good idea to go to the middle of a room, when you can, and take pictures all around the room. That way, you can see what's around and on the wall before making any snap decisions about any anomoly that might be captured.
Who is the woman in the painting? Love that picture.

She's Rhoda Merrihew Huttleston, she was Millicent's grandmother on her mother's side. I'm not sure if they allow the public in that room, but I don't think so. If you could see her eyes in the picture, they definitely got her expression, it's almost as if you expect her to blink, or smile at you!!
One thing, I do usually like to get those kind of shots like you say, but this was a mini-investigation, we were sort of pressed for time. Hopefully next time we go, we'll have a bit more time to gather more evidence. I'd say it's near to impossible to get in there after hours, but those would be better conditions to investigate here or any other place more fully. Even so, I really loved being there with Spooky, it's just such a great building, and it's filled with love. For after all, didn't this family give this building as a monument to their daughter, Millicent, who wanted to share the gift of reading with generations of Fairhaven children who came after her??
