This week on "Spooky Southcoast," we're going to talk about hypnosis with Alan L. Alves, MS, BCH, CI of SouthCoast Hypnosis Center.
Those of you who have heard our Bridgewater Triangle shows have already heard Alan's name, as the police officer investigating the cult activity in the Freetown State Forest.
Now, he's a hypnotherapist and the founder of SouthCoast Hypnosis Center, and this week, we're focusing on the power of hypnosis, along with some of the myths surrounding it.
Don't miss this mesmerizing show!!

Sounds like an excellent show! What types of hypnosis does he do? Like is it for past life regressions, or fixing bad habits, like smoking??

I have been through hypno-therapy before, and it is very interesting. Also have done a past-life regression, and for fun.
I do know that hypnosis does not 'fix' things. A person does not do anything under hypnosis that they would not do under whatever their 'normal conditions' are. So, if you really do not want to stop smoking, hypnosis will not make it a successful venture.
Wish I could listen to the show though, I enjoy this topic. But will be at the Supernatural Summit this weekend. Will have to catch it on a replay. Good luck with the show.

I agree with you, lildebcc. The only thing that hypnosis seems to do is help people recall events in better detail (see Penn Gillette's radio show with guest MythBuster Adam Savage - www.podcastpickle.com/casts/15058/). But, that is still a great benefit to society!

Hmm, I don't know. One of my old buds from my old work had quit smoking with hypnois. It was guaranteed, so if he suddenly started smoking again, he could go back and be re-hypnotized. I think he went back once after the initial hypnosis, and that was it, never picked up a cigarette again. Coincidence??

Hi everyone, Made it to Maine safe and sound. Joe Nyman was able to regress one of " the twins " today with a good deal of information coming out of the session. To see hypnosis done first hand is an eye opening event every time you witness it. The information that was imparted, reviled that these events can happen to a person as far back as the very start of life. The whole session was recorded on vidio and audio, after a full and through interview before the session started. More info can be gleened in a hypnotic state, because the person is in such a total and complete body relaxed condition, that the brain is freed to recall minor bits of data that is stored in the persons memory. As the material is put onto a cohesive colection of other pieces of data from the interview, a more complete picture is produced. I will be reviewing the recordings and putting them on this site after editing some of it for the safety and privacy of the "twins". This may be one of Spookys most talked about shows. As more becomes cleared for airing, we will share some this very personal experience with the listeners.

It was soo awesome to hear Audrey's voice again! I haven't seen her in years, but I'd say this is one interesting case!! I'm glad ya made it safe up to Maine, and hope you guys have a great time together! HUGS to ya both!! I'll be looking forward to what you've got from her interview and hypnotic state. Maybe if Audrey can regress to these horrific times in her life, I can do it and go back to my most frightening times, and know all of the truth of what happened to me. I haven't forgotten alot of it, so I'm sure the things I've repressed aren't so nice. One thing I do know is that a demon is more easy for people to understand for some reason, as soon as you start talking aliens, people seem to shut down. I hope that by Audrey coming forward, others who share her experiences will be able to come forward and come to terms with these events that are so out of their control! Rock on Audrey!!

Great show guys! Mr. Alves was an excellent guest and really explained the workings of the mind and hypnosis in a realistic and understandable way. Without knowing the guest, before listening, I thought the show might become mystic-triskety. Happily, I was completely wrong and the show was great.

It probably did not work the first time because he did not really have the desire/need/want to quit. Maye be was ready to quit the second time around so the power of suggestion worked.
I know someone who quit smoking with hypnosis; however, the 'hypnotist' was just someone pretending to know what they were doing. The smoker did not know about the hoax, but quit anyway, for about 6 months. When we finally told him the truth, he started smoking again. I do not care about the 'whats' and the 'whys' of this all I know is, is that the power of suggestion kept him smoke free for 6 months. Maybe we should not have said anything to him.
Do not get me wrong, I do believe that hypnosis works. However, it is nothing more than the power of suggestion and mind manipulation of a person that is in a relaxed state (and it does not work on everyone). And I do believe that it will work, if you really want it to. Kind of like a swift kick in the diaper to get you to do something.

They did say that on the show, that someone has to really want to quit. Without desire, nothing much works well in my honest opinion. The power of suggestion is very powerful, but still without desire, I guess it won't do a thing. I found this show really interesting and I wish I could watch the act of hypnosis and get a feel for it. I went to someone who wanted to hypnotize me back to the beginning of the demon attacks, and also to the past life memory I have. The problem was, I didn't trust enough to actually go under, so not much came of it. I had gone alone, and wasn't sure I wanted to be in a hypnotic state while I was alone with a man I didn't know very well. It's not often that this is offered for free, so to this day I wish I'd been able to grab a friend to go with me, so I wouldn't have had to worry about being alone. But I do have to agree with ya, sometimes a good kick in the arse is very effective, LOL!!!
