I must've been in the wrong chat room - yep - I just went and checked - I was - DOH! I was in Spiritsociety.org, not Spirit Society.net. Argh - it figures. Didn't occur to me to check the other one either. Will try again this Saturday!

I'm sorry it can be a bit confusing, LOL! I'm actually working on a bit of a story about how they came to be. I thought since the guys seemed to think I owned the sites, it would be nice to introduce you to my whole gang. I do super moderate at The Spirit Society, and I am considered a 'founding mother' since I was there from the very start of our lively site, I am an administrator at Spirited Society, and enjoy being one of four fiery fire signs that run the show there, LOL! I hope after writing this thread everyone will understand, these people aren't just people I work with every day on ghosts and hauntings, they are like family to me!! I'm going to leave you a correct link for the right chatroom, so you or anyone looking, can find the darned thing, LOL! And if in doubt, follow the links at the bottom of any post I've made and you'll find me there! (Shouldn't be too hard to find a place I posted, I sure do yap enough, don't I??? LOLOL) chat.parachat.com/chat/login.html?room=Spirited_Society&width=600&height=400&bg=FF9933&fg=000000&lang=en_uk"

Great show fellas! I'd have to say the experiences I had as a child were definitely not dreams. They were terrifying and left a deep impression which still bothers me to this day. There were a brief series of these experiences, the worst of which was most assuredly no dream (although I wish it were). I was very young and lying in my crib - maybe 3 or 4 years old. I could clearly see my father washing his face in the bathroom as I reclined on the matress and gazed out the door of my room. I turned on my side and suddenly, out of the darkness, I distinctly saw a white, wart-covered hand with gnarled fingers and long aged nails rise up just on the other side of the crib's bars. I stared, terror-stricken as the hand rose higher and higher - reaching towards me. When I finally started shrieking, the hand receded downwards and, thankfully, I never saw it again. I also never slept in my crib again. Even now my mother recalls how hysterical and horrified I was.
The other experiences, shortly after seeing the hand (perhaps weeks later) always happened in the middle of the night. My parents had replaced the crib with a bed. The subsequent experience only happened a handful of times and it was the same each time. I'd awaken, unable to breathe and unable to move for several seconds. At the moment of awakening, I'd see a cat sitting on my chest. The cat would let out an unusual, strange meow as I watched, unable to breathe or move. Finally, through force of will, I'd take a huge gasp of air and the cat would vanish. For the record, we didn't have a cat. If these "cat" experiences were of the dream variety, then so be it. They didn't feel like dreamns to me, but they do seem to match the physiological descriptions of dream paralysis (sans the appearance of the cat). The hand however, was absolutely not a dream and I tend to think that experience was somehow connected to the cat phenomenon.
I do not know what these experiences represented. Matt M. mentioned the "old hag" syndrome to me and that hand sure did look like something belonging to an old hag. An interesting side note - Years later, my mother told me she saw a white hand in Portugal when she was a child. It wasn't as close to her bed as mine was and she didn't describe it as old and gnarled, but she did say it was a pale white hand.

Interesting experiences penny! Oh, and welcome aboard! Great to have you! I also had experiences that were definitely not sleep paralysis. The biggest reasons I have for thinking this is because for one, sleep paralysis is not contagious, so two other people having similar experiences in my homes, rules out sleep paralysis. Also, I was hurt by this thing once, it wrenched my arm so bad, I was seen at the emergency room the next day. Another thing is the way my two boys would scream simultaneously that the bed was shaking and run into my room and jump in my bed terrified. When I did have a cat, the poor thing was definitely afraid of whatever it was that was attacking me in my bed, for she'd run so fast, she'd hit the wall. I never actually saw this thing, it was always invisible, but I think it knew it frightened me more that way. If I could have had a shape that went along with all the abuse I took over the years from this thing, I'm not sure it would have been as scary as something I couldn't see or name.
I'm glad those incidents have stopped for you. I do find it interesting that your mom saw something similar. I do know certain things run in families, like both of my sons can see ghosts, and they also have 'deja vu' dreams like their mom, but I wonder if what you saw was something your mom picked up and passed on to you for a time, unbeknownst to her? Whatever it was, I just hope you never see it again!!! I don't know if we had the same type of thing or not, but I called mine a negative energy feeder, for it seemed to enjoy scaring me and I think somehow fed off the fear it produced in me. To me anything like that is a negative entity, and I think part of me wants to fight back, but mostly, I want others to be safe from these awful creatures!!!

Can not say yes or no to that one because with the paranormal anything is possible. Guess you could go through with the 'what ifs' and the 'I wonders' but who really knows.
With the out of body experiences that I have had, that has never happened, and I have no idea if it ever would either. But, I do not worry about it. I feel that worrying about something like that would set a negative energy to it and that negative energy might attract some no so pleasant unworldly entity to me. I guess that could also be said for a lot of things.
Like attracts like - so if you put worry/negative thoughts to things, you would probably be plagued by like things.

i was listening to the podcast and i was thinking if you leave your body are you now on the same energy level as a spirit? do you have an emf field? do you suck energy from the air like a spirit? Can we pick up an "out of body" experience on a heat sensitive camera? like have a bunch of equipment (cameras, emf detectors ,ext.) at a place and set up a remote viewing trial and see.

Interesting questions karl! I'll have to ask my buddy that I visit astrally in my sleep all the time to take a picture of me next time I show up in their house. I'd say if I'm visible to the eyes, I'd probably be visible to a camera. None of us really know anything for sure, but I sort of thought the energy came from our living body and we didn't have to suck energy from batteries and such like a spirit does, but again, who knows for sure? I'm not sure but I wonder if there is an emf field around an astral body. I guess I'll have to ask them to break out the emf detector, too! Though I have to admit, I've joined this person in dreams alot lately and I'm not sure that I show up astrally anymore since doing this. Well, I know I'm astral in my dream to be in their dream with them, and vice versa, but now this person is participating in the dreams too. It is pretty awesome though, and I never knew this was possible, but then again, my horizons do seem to be broadening lately!!

I think there are two schools of thought on the OBEs - one holds that there is a "silver cord" between the physical body and the spirit body and that if the cord is cut while the spirit body is separated from the physical body, the physical body will die. It's also said that if the spirit body is killed while separated from the physical body, the physical body will die. The other school holds that during an OBE the spirit is not truly separated from the physical body, therefore nothing untoward can happen to the physical body. I had a couple of interesting dreams last night - nothing too paranormal but funny - I was really tired, so I went to bed about 8:30 pm. Techno-hubby came in I don't know when, somehow I sensed it and he managed to scare the crap out of me while I was still asleep to the point that I woke up yelling and scared the crap out of him. Then this morning - my "lucid dream" was a good one - I was a half-Russian (father)/half-American (mother) [which was the cover for my American accent] smuggler entering the United States as a money-launderer posing as a clothing import/export dealer. We had several racks of women's sweaters, very colorful, with silver threads in them coming in; in addition to those, I had a pink overcoat with 50K in cash in the lining and my job was to get it through security with the person in front of me causing some type of distraction so I wouldn't have to put the raincoat through the x-ray machine. I accomplished this with no problem. (Typical TSA'ers...) My partners were 2 other men, Russian mob connected. One was an older guy black eyes, hair, mustache and beard streaked with silver and he was my boyfriend. Now, I ask you - where in the hell did my brain get THAT one from??? I knew none of the people, I didn't recognize the airport, I've never been a smuggler or a money-launderer and I've never been into dating any guys anywhere near my Dad's age . (My husband's a couple years younger than I am). If there was a dream that was a case for precog or astral travel, that would be one...excellent novel material if nothing else!

Here's something interesting that we were talking about in the chat room tonight - in my dream i had actually had Russian travel documents - a Russian passport - it was red with gold lettering and some sort of seal in the middle. Aneaglesangel and I were saying how we'd never seen a Russian passport, - I commented that it might be a good point of independent verification and Karlsaves found us a photo of the new Russian passport. Well the new Russian passport, didn't look as red, and the gold wasn't as shiny - so I went looking in a few more stock photo areas - and I found the "right" Russian passport from my dream in this picture: www.bigstockphoto.com/photo/view/1024428

As far as your dream goes; recently there was a Russian spy who died from radiation posioning - it's been in the news. You might have heard/read something about that without even realizing it, and your brain could have orchestrated the entire dream because of the information.
As far as the astral body being detected by an EMF detector; I can see that happening. When I walk near an EMF detector it goes off. So why shouldn't the same thing happen if my astral body went near one?
