What do you think? Is it real? Or is it memorex?? The whole story is at this link, I only posted the link instead of the whole story, so that you could follow the link to see the pictures for yourself! (Even if it's not really the shroud of Jesus, it's pretty cool how they can make a face out of the imprint with computer graphics!) cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2010/03/30/2246609.aspx?GT1=43001

guess if it's the real thing or not we'll never know - it's just one of those never ending debates that makes life so interesting no matter how pointless the debate is what's really fascinating to me about the Shroud is that whether or not is is the Shroud used to cover Jesus it is absolutely irrelevant to Christianism. Or at least it should be. Although we live in a world where the kleenex used by a "holy" man who heals people in the Sunday service can make a buck on e-Bay - so I guess I can't really make that affirmation People are weird.

I do wonder if something like that can be carbon dated to give us an idea of how old it is. And if they can, why haven't they? Even if it is 2000 years old, to put it around the time of Christ's death, that still doesn't make it the specific one used to cover Jesus. They had a fetish for sticking people up on crosses back in those days, so it would be hard to say that it really is the shroud that covered him. Unless maybe the blood could be DNA tested and proven to be "holy" that is.
I did see a few of the comments people left. Some think it's blasphemy to even mess with it. Others think it's great that they're paying attention to Jesus. Still others are angry that Jesus is "white" in the computer generated images. I guess no matter what happens, there will always be a lot of controversy over this!

I didn't go into the comments but I can imagine what peeps are saying. and you're right, even if they could date it, it won't help. I don't think they'll ever get a verdict on that one. I saw a documentary these days where they analized several works of art depicting Jesus that seemed to have been based on the impressions in the Shroud - and those depictions all dated from the 13th/14th century on (could be wrong), so they were saying that the shroud could be at least that old, but even so that doesn't help. their argument was based on using the impressions and superimposing them on the depictions and show how they aligned.

That's pretty cool to think that they used the shroud as the basis for their art back in the day. They didn't need machinery worth tons of money to see what he looked like. Pretty frugal if you ask me, hehe!
It's funny, there are very few people that you can speak with about religion who don't end up getting mad, LOL! But I do have to say, one thing I've wondered about at times is the claim that Jesus was black. I think it is possible, I mean really, we're all sort of black, since anthropologists have proven that all people came originally from Africa. It was evolution that turned some of us a lighter color. But then, wasn't Jesus Jewish? As far as I know the Jewish people were not black, but I could be wrong. But I figure Jesus probably did have a darker complexion than what they depict in most pictures that I've seen. Where he was from was in the Middle East, so I'd say Jesus wasn't quite as pale as we've always portrayed him.
But I guess as long as there is people, there will be controversy over such things. But I do know one thing. I've never been very religious, but there was a time when I was in need. (You guys know I'm always into some paranormal thing or another, LOL!) When I asked for help, it was Jesus, who I never really knew if I believed in or not, that came to help. I have to admit, I'm still confused about the whole thing. Why would he come to me if I didn't even believe in him? Is he really a son of God? I mean heck, I believe ghosts exist, so maybe he was just a helpful ghost who came to offer me strength when I needed it. Or he could really be more than that and he knew he had the power to help me, even if I didn't believe in him. If that's the case, then I have to say, that is a wonderful thing. To forgive me for my lack of faith, and to help me when I needed. Well, it says a lot for Jesus in my eyes. I'm still a bit tossed up over the whole thing, but I can at least say this, Jesus is my friend, and I can never forget that he was the one who came to me. He was the one who showed me a rainbow, and he is the one who I think will help me when the case that has been going on in my life since 2006 finally comes to a head. Do I know who his father really is? Nope! Do I know if he is just a ghost who helps when people are in need? Nope, I don't know that either. But what I do know, is I called for help, and it was him that came.
Am I any different because of this? Have I become religious? Well, I have to say that I haven't really gotten religious, I'm still the same little heathen I always was. I do think I am a little different because of what happened. For I know this, next time I'm in need, I will call for Jesus by name, and I do think that he will come to help if I really need it. I think maybe Jesus can see my heart. For to me, there's more to my investigations and research than just proving ghosts exist. I want to prove to people that we do really have souls. They really do go on after we die. And maybe, just maybe if we're good and follow our hearts, something good will come to us. Maybe not in this life, but possibly in the next one. I wonder sometimes if that's the key, for I think maybe that's all Jesus wanted us to know in the first place. So whether I search for the answers to all of this by reaching for science, does it all come down to the same thing anyway??
Pretty deep......
