Hey gang, I've been looking into the possiblity of streaming the show LIVE online, but from what I've found, it's EXTREMELY expensive. At least, more so than we can afford (we actually don't get paid for "Spooky Southcoast," and the costs associated with running the web site and posting the audio online comes out of our pockets).
So what I ask is two questions. ONE: Does anyone know more about how to do this, in a way that it can be done cheaply? And TWO: If we did pay the money to do it, how many people would listen live every night via the web (that has a lot to do with the price) and would you be willing to pay, say, $5-$10 a month for a subscription? Of course, if we charge for the live stream, we would have to eliminate the free replay on our website and the iTunes podcasts. I would hate to have to do it that way...I think the show should be out there for everyone to enjoy.
Maybe the best way is for everyone to contact WBSM (please CC me a copy of the email if you do) and ask them to stream. Let them know where you're listening from as well!

Hmm, let me see, I know "Ghostly Talk" in Michigan does it. I heard them live when my administrator from The Spirit Society did a live broadcast at a haunted hotel out there, The Fenton Hotel. I'll see if maybe someone he knows can help, it's worth a shot!!

I'd be willing to pay a montly fee for live streaming; too bad there wasn't a way to keep the iTunes podcast as well. >^o.o^<

Hey guys! Hope you don't mind, I pointed the Ghostly Talk people your way and I hope they can be of help to you! I also noticed something today that I hadn't before. When you listen to Ghostly Talk they keep all their commercials in the downloadable versions of their show. It got me to thinking that maybe their advertisers pay for their live stream?? Just a thought, figured I'd pose it to you, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!! Oh, and like lildeb, if it does come to that, I'd be willing to help out and subscribe, but if the advertisers pay, none of us would have to!! Good luck!!

Yeah, I cut out the advertisers when I edit the show for the web, because there's no point in giving them free advertising. We get nothing from them, so why give them extra play?
Selling ads to support the stream is something we are considering. We want to try to keep the show commercial-free as much as possible.

I'd have to say, if it costs you guys money, and you're only doing it for the love of the show, then don't bother going to the trouble of streaming. We can live with a day's delay!

I would pay for a subscription, but I really don't want to lose the ability to download it. I like listening to these shows a few times especially when I'm really interested in the guest, but whatever you guys came up with, I'd be cool with it.

Yea I'd forget steaming if it was going to mean an end to the pod casts. You gotta think of us foreigners.

Tim,
Ever think of two two shows. Have a subscription show and then the Saturday show is available the way it always has been. That way the two shows promote each and it gives you a chance to expand the show...

I'd be willing to pay a fee for the show but I only listen via an ipod so I hope you somehow are able to keep that option open. Okay, I'll be completely honest - I download the show (I live in MD) and listen to it AT WORK. Yes AT WORK . . . Something has to make the day interesting, right? Thanks guys for the great show, I enjoy the interview format and it's been fun hearing from TAPS!

Please don't stop the podcast. I couldn't afford the streaming as I am supporting my own page at present. (a retail page/not paranormal so don't look for it)

Ok, i stopped by hoping to catch Keith on the show. I was a little disappointed, being in Tx, and no live streaming. But, I do understand financial restraints, not just for you putting on the show, but the listeners maybe not being able to afford a monthly fee. Here is my solution if you want to check it out... www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/20051015_how_to_stream_a_live_audio_file.htmlit is a link to a Q/a on how to live stream from your existing system. Not the highest of quality, but it is a good start, and it is free. free is good. I look forward to being able to hear Keith on your show at a later date. I hope this helps to solve the problem.

I think a good compromise would help. I have a suggestion that would probably help out. I think the $10 a month thing is a great idea. Regardless I think it is a good idea in general as there is nothing at all wrong all with covering costs and even making a profit. There is a difference between someone charging to "sweep a haunted house" and a radio show. It does not make you guys charlatans. It an entertaining show and a good source for learing about paranomral things.
The compromise I would consider is about adjusting the downloads and the iPod. I would leave a show up for a week and not older shows. Those would be for paying members. Also maybe give those who pay the extra on the website or something like that. An archived show list, something extra on the forums, ect. Nothing that could cost in you money because that wouldn't make sense if you had to pay more to run the site from those who have a paid membership.
Now as for the iPod part I would not at all do that. This is coming from a business standpoint. Without the iPod it will be really hard to reach people outside your area. It would be a local production. The iPod allows you guys to get fans from all over the world. I found Spooky Southcoast by typing in "Ghost" in the search. Any person in the world who has an iPod can find this show who have an interest in this topic. That kind of marketing is really awesome! I think you guys should keep the Podcasts regardless.
