Then by all means you should get it. It's a great reference book if you are interested in graveyard symbolism. >^o.o^<

I seem to end up in a lot of graveyards and such, now that I have a partner. I was very limited as to what I could do being a loner. I do try to promote safe ghost hunting, especially since I lead a couple communities on the web. If I live it, I'm setting a good example. I would love to know what the symbols on the graves mean! I find some of the stones so beautiful that I can't help but be moved by these tributes to the dead! I'll have to look for it, I also have to see if I can find the book Kristyn recommended this week when I was on the call-in!! E-bay and amazon, here I coooome!!!

Its nice I see some things that are different than what I have read in other places. The dust jacket is a pain in the but, I took that thing off.
I like the Acronyms of societies, clubs, and organizations section on page 204 it is 24 pages long pretty extensive. Its O.K. so far.

Yeah the book is pretty good. I know what you mean about that mini-dust jacket - LOL. I've seen that with a lot of books that explain symbolism; you will get differing opinions. What can you do. I always leave it with............"The boat on the stone could mean this, that or the other; or it could simply mean that the person liked boats".
It's really only a guess on our part as far as any symbolism goes, unless we know the person or their family. >^o.o^<

Freemasons are alive and well, and yes, right here in New Bedford. The Massachusetts Grand Lodge has a beautiful new website which includes a tour of a typical masonic temple. Visit the site at www.massfreemasonry.org It should be noted the temple appellation does not indicate a place of worship; it does not function, in any way, as a religous temple. In the past couple of years the masonic temples in the state have held open houses (I believe they have been in September). I do not know if one is planned for this year, but if so, it will be advertised. Yes, Eastern Star is affiliated with masonry, and is open to female relatives of masons. The Knigts of Columbus however, has no affiliation with Freemasonry. It is an organization affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.

Open house at a Masonic Temple? Now that would be interesting. Would that be indicted on the site that you provided, or would that be individual groups that do that.
Thanks much for the info. >^o.o^<

Oooh, you have to be a female relative? You can't just be one because you want to be??

I believe that it is a man's world, as far as these 'secret societies' are concerned. My guess would be that women are not allowed to join up, but if a male member of your family were in the organization, then you have a chance of getting in.
These organizations go by old school rules; and I am willing to bet that they are not swayed by the politically correct society of today (thank goodness not everything has been corrupted by political correctness!)
