This Sunday, my good buddy, jethrodfrog (race car driver) and I went to Rehoboth Village Cemetery. It was a long awaited trip, for we seemed to get rained out a lot this spring! We enjoyed our time there and were not accosted by a male chauvinist ghost. It is rumored that a man spirit will chase women out of the cemetery screaming, "Catherine, you b*tch!" This unhappily ever after married couple has also been seen together, Catherine kneeling in submission as her ghostly husband batters her. We did not experience any activity while we were there. It is a quaint and peaceful place, that I can't imagine having such a violent haunting. I'm sure if either of us women had been alone instead of gaily traipsing around dreaming of stage names that start with "Swan" and not dragging a hulk of a 13 year old boy learning video skills, we may have found things to be quite different! I must admit every time I looked down the hill toward the newer graves I felt uneasy and nauseous in my stomach. I'm going to have to go back here, alone and see if this male chauvinist ever after wife beating ghost tries to chase me out! I'll have no problem snapping pics of him while he attempts to bully me, and I'd sure love to have a little talk with Catherine, if that is, I can get her out from behind her nasty husband!! I hope you enjoy the pics!! I really want to go back and try to experience the phenomena again! Next time, it's girls only, LOL!! Sorry boys, but this here ghost doesn't like to chase men!!!

This mausoleum, if that's what it is, seems as if it's seen better days! I wonder if anyone is buried here, or if it's some type of old maintenance shed. These stones look like they're huddling together for protection, or maybe comfort? When you're walking through, it just seems as if it's old stone after old stone!! See how nice this one looks, well, hey at least I didn't break them ALL!! I did fix this one!

OK, so I got all excited about the water pump! I did try it, but no water came out! I thought this was really sweet, some son loved his mother very much!! I thought this was odd and had never seen it before. Jethro had to explain that if a person is Jewish, they leave a stone or something on the gravestone to show they were there to visit! I'd say this pagan was given their right to display a symbol of their religion on their stone. I hope that the government allows our downed soldier who was a practicing Wiccan to display the symbol of his religion on his grave and plague dedicated to him!!!

These are two of my favorite stones in the Rehoboth Village Cemetery, though many were very different and original. I hope you've enjoyed your tour of the haunted Rehoboth Village Cemetery! Please fasten your seatbelts and extinguish all smoking materials, we're about to come in for a landing!!! Yippeeee! Hey, does anybody know how to fly this thing!??

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. I have seen many water pumps similar to the one you have pictured, in some of the old graveyards here on The Cape. And yeah, I tried them too - LOL - same results, no water. Can only imagine how many hands pumped water from them for the flowers that they left for loved ones over the years.
As far as the star symbol, it's not Wiccan. If you look at it closer, it is an inverted 5-pointed star. I have seen this symbol quite a bit on Cape Cod headstones of people who were Masons. The Mason symbol would be with the husband's name and this inverted star would be with the wife's name. Also, a 5-pointed star would stand for divine guidance and protection or the star of Bethlehem.
This kind of plaque is generally placed, by the funeral home, at a grave site as a marker before or instead of a headstone. Some are removed, and some end up overgrown over the years.
I doubt very much that a Christian cemetery would allow a known Wiccan to be buried in their hallowed ground. And a pentacle, especially one that is inverted, would never be marked in a Christian cemetery.
As far as the rocks and coins left on the headstones; I see that all the time. I place them myself from time to time. I believe that it can be for remembrance. Also, rocks are for stability and steadfastness of Christ. The only thing I can think of that would relate to the coins would be the shape; a circle which would represent eternity. Some people leave shells as well, which is directly related to baptism and Christ. And as far as leaving items such as these on the stones, I have seen it regardless of religion. >^o.o^<

Hmm, interesting! I wondered if that star could be a mason symbol. I usually see the ones with the sun or the scale, hmm, there's another one that I can't think of right now. I think that I've seen the rocks on a gravestone, but that was definitely the first time I've seen pennies. For some reason it reminded me of how they used to put pennies on the eyes of the dead, so they could pay the ferryman to get across the River Styx!! Thanks for the info, I love learning more about the customs people practice! I sure didn't know they had a special symbol for a freemason's wife!! I did think that marker was a bit odd, maybe they forgot to remove it, she did have a headstone and all. I can't say I can recall ever seeing a marker like that before. Guess I'll be seeing more of them as I visit more graveyards!!

I've spent a lot of time looking into symbolism on headstones; fascinating stuff. You can find out a lot about a person or the era in which they lived by what you read (besides the words) on a headstone. Of course, someone may have a boat engraved for no other reason than they liked boats. Some people don't remove those funeral home markers. From what I have seen, they are put at the foot of the grave, and the funeral home's name is usually on it. Advertising, can't even get away from it when you're dead! Oh yeah, I have included a picture of one of the many Freemason headstones that I have come across. You will note the inverted star under the female’s name. >^o.o^<

Usually if you store it on photobucket the size automatically changes. You can also change the size by opening it in paint, then clicking on "image" then "image attributes". In there you can change the size. If you have any kind of pic editing software you can also resize with that also!
I wonder why they inverted the star like that? Anything inverted to me, means they are trying to turn something good around into something bad. Like say for instance, a satanist would put a cross upside down. I wonder if it has any specific meaning to a mason. Hmm, guess I'll have to see if I can find some research material. I still wonder what many of their signs mean! Should be pretty interesting to find out!!

The inverted star is the sign for the God of the underworld, someone who cares for those that have passed. But like with any symbols, they almost always get turned into something negative by those that don't want you to believe in them. At least that has been my experience. >^o.o^< Check this link out www.utlm.org/onlineresources/masonicsymbolsandtheldstemple.htmscroll down and you will find many pictures/drawings of the inverted star with some explanations.

Cool! Thanks lildeb! My race car driver said that someone also told her it's for the wives of freemasons and for an order of women, that I'm not sure yet, may have been kind of like female masons!! It's called the Order of the Eastern Star! If I get a chance I'm going to try and see if I can find anything to back that up. Tomorrow's going to be a big day for me, going up to Boston to see if the can fix me spine, hopefully the procedure they do will lessen the pain! If it works, I'll be out huntin' ghosts real fast, if not, it'll be slow, old me, LOLOL!! Wish me luck! I'll let ya know if I find anything!!

Very Cool!! Thanks for the links. Some really interesting stuff.
One thing I really like about this message board is all the information that we can share with each other. Too bad school wasn't this much fun. - LOL

LOL! Ya know, I've become an online ghost hound!! I never had so many people to share with until I found the people I work with on my two sites. You see, we were a bunch of renegade ghosters, and we all visited the same place. One night, a troll came along and was attacking us all! All of us members defended the place honorably, not one mod or admin from the board showed up to protect the innocent members of their board. This was when we all realized how close we'd become and how we worked so well together. And so, the birth of The Spirit Society, and Spirited Society came to be! I found myself a very happy moderator and administrator of these foundling sites, it made me very happy!! We share and discuss all phases of the paranormal world. I've learned more about photography of spirits than I'd ever hoped to. I've counselled people who feared! It was where I belonged, without even knowing it!!
So as the sites grew, I found the sharing and discussing of all that is paranormal, my soul has bloomed, my heart has opened up and I feel as if I'm right where I need to be. Sharing paranormal information, discussing pics and hauntings has been the best time of my life. I feel happy and I feel as though my own experiences can benefit others. Some of whom still live in fear, or who have something going on and they don't know what it is. For some, it's finding a reasonable explanation, for others it's educating them so they have no reason to fear. Most of the time, it's not a paranormal occurence, sometimes it is, but the best part of it is having places to go where you can discuss it, and know you won't be ridiculed or thought to be crazy because of events noone has control of!
I've found I have a home online, and I have a job, to help those experiencing things that are out of the normal capacity of things. There's so much information to share, so many differing views of how things work, I learn something new every day, and I sooo enjoy it!! There was one thing I lacked, even as I tried to bring the whole paranormal world together to work as a team and inter-share information, and that was people closeby, people in my area, people I could connect with in real life! But then, Spooky came along, and I found some of the people right here in my own area! I got to go creeping with the CAIPRS team!! I got an emf detector and a thermal scanner! Things could never be better than they are now! So, not only do I get to help connect the world of paranormal, I get to meet and know some of the people who are close enough that I can interact with them in real life!!! Awesome!!! That's all I can say!!!
So, yeeeup, this is way better than school!! We can share real life events that take place close enough that we can jump right in and check it out!! So much information and so many ideas can cross back and forth, and we can still meet up and trounce around in the woods!! Loong liiive Spoooooky and all my good local buddies!!
Oh, back on topic, LOLOL!!!! I thought the Order of the Eastern Star was a pretty cool thing to find out about! I think I'd like to learn more about the Masons and what they did! I've always had the impression that they were sort of like witches, but witches that were accepted by the church. But one thing I never considered, was that they let women have their own order and actually allowed them to participate!! I really like how each point of the star is named for a woman!! And who knew, they still actually practice to this day! I'd like to find out if there are still any around here! I know the Masonic Temple still stands on County St and Union St, at the corner. But I don't know if it still functions as a Temple or not! Guess I'll be digging into it soon enough!! And as always, if I find anything interesting, I'll share it with you all here!! My "ghost neighbors" lol!!! So once again, I feel compelled to say, Looooonggg liiiiiive Spoooooooky Southcooooast and all my great new ghost buddy neighbors!!!!!
