Taken from another board -
"On the subject of ghost hunting, I've heard it several times from different people, including some people on forums such as these that it is possible that if you do ghost hunting, you run the risk of some of these ghosts following you home. Do you think that's true?"
I think that what will determine the basis if ghost can follow you home is the question:
Do ghosts need living energy to manifest
or
Do ghosts have an energy source of their own which they gather ONLY from the spot/dimension they inhabit?
Any thoughts?

Yes, I think they can follow you home. I'm unsure where they get their energy source from. I'd say it is possible to take energy from a living person, or why would negative energy feeders even bother if they couldn't suck the negative energy you produce? I've often wondered where they get the energy to manifest, and if it has to be a specific type of energy. I do think they can get energy in our realm, and it may be why some people who have hauntings often have electrical disturbances.
I mean none of us can really know for sure, but I've often wondered if events like a full moon, or solar flares can help jack up the energy. Then in turn, they can produce more activity, or manifest themselves into an appartions with this extra boost. I think there will need to be loads of research done until we ever get close to the answer!
But I do firmly believe they can follow you home! I've even had one follow me home from Connecticut before, LOL!! Poor thing, I wonder if I'll ever know what he wanted!! I couldn't hear a darn thing he was saying!!!

I would think that all spirits have their own energies and do not need to take energies from the living. Everything is made up of energy. When a person dies, their energy does not die - remember, you can not destroy energy. The energy may change, but it is still there. I think spirits of the dead exist as the living do, from their own energy. Do solar flares, lunar cycles, thunder storms, etc add to that? I have no idea and never thought about it. I have spirits follow me from time to time. It is not just because of ghost hunting either. Had something latch on to me from Triangle Field in Gettysburg last weekend. I was told that my demeanor changed for almost an entire day, although I did not notice it. Have no idea who it was, what it wanted, or why it decided to choose me to latch on to. Actually, do not care either , as long as it eventually went away. I was more interested in having a good time than worrying about a hitch hiker who I could not help. I guess no matter how well you protect yourself, something can always manage to sneak in. >^O.O^<

Hmm, but lildeb, do you think they can manifest in our realm without an additional boost of energy? I always figured that was why even really haunted places don't have constant activity. Like they need some added catalyst to manifest?? Know what I mean, make sense??

Can they manifest here without an additional boost of energy? I have no idea really. Could be that they are always able to be seen and sensed, and it is the living that need the extra 'boost of energy' from somewhere else in order to see the dead. However it works, I do not know, and to be honest, do not really care. As long as the living can be in contact that is all that matters to me.
Even if a place is really haunted, like Gettysburg for instance, it does not mean that you will always see or sense a ghost/spirit. I tend to think that they make themselves known to the living when they want to. The living think they have control over contacting the dead and all, and I do not think that is the case. >^o.o^<

I've got to agree with you there, LOL!! I've tried at different times to see if I could make the spirits around my house manifest. I do have a dvr now, so I can see if they're saying something I can't hear now at least, but these attempts have all failed. Then when I least expect it, something will happen. I go running off for my cam in hopes of catching something. Oops, too late, it's over, until the next time when I'm least expecting it, LOL!!
I do think that they have their own energy source and it's sufficient in whatever realm they are in. I'm not sure if it's us that needs the energy boost, or them. When I saw the blue sapphire lady ghost in that building, noone else could see her (or so I assume, since noone went screaming and running) so was it my energy, or hers?? Did she just want me to see her, or was I the only one who could see her?? The only thing I can say is that maybe the woman she was standing next to noticed 'something', she kept rubbing her arms as if she was cold. Other than that small detail, I can't say that I noticed anyone else, noticing her.
So then I bring up all kinds of questions. Did she get a boost of energy from all the people in the building that day?? Does she always have enough energy to manifest, but chooses who she lets see her?? Can only certain people actually see spirits?? Or can everyone see them, it's just some choose not to, even if it is an unconscious choice?? I know, I ask alot of questions, and I don't really expect answers, but I do think about this alot. This just seemed to be a good example. If there were another ghost magnet or 'sensitive' person in the room, would they have seen her too??
Even though I do think they have to have a boost of energy in this realm to manifest, I'm not sure about it. None of us really can be sure, unless a ghost decided to tell us how they do it. If any tell me, I'll let ya know lildeb, as long as you let me know if they give you a clue!! Deal??

I would Everything is made up of energy. When a person dies, their energy does not die - remember, you can not destroy energy. The energy may change, but it is still there. >^O.O^< I have always had problem with that theory. It is one of the big ones but something about it....sometimes doesn't cut the mustard with the paranormal field. Why doesn't it dispate. What is there to maintain an energy level. Energy the fluxes to and fro. Now I'm just babbling. I know what I am trying to say but my brain is still a Commadore 64.

Hmmm, my brain must be there, too, I think I understand what you're saying. Energy can not be destroyed, it can only change form. And yes, this is a hard theory to understand. The way I try to look at it is that it just changes from one form to another but never completely disappears. I believe the integral part of our soul is a type of energy, and when we die, though the energy we've been burning in our bodies may be exhausted and/or change form, the energy of our soul doesn't. Like if we burn gas, the exhaust is left over and floats away. I sort of look at a soul as the exhaust that floats away. I don't know if I'm right, I'm probably not, but I like to be able to visualize things, or put them into a physical sense. I think as living bodies, we have a hard time putting that into perspective. In a way, it's sort of like how the human brain can't imagine itself not existing, it's hard to imagine ourselves without a body.
Now I'm babbling, LOL, must be all that coffee I had!!!

No doubt about it they can and do. I've never had such an experence but do know someone who did have one. It wasn't unpleasent for him, it was just something letting him know that not only can he go and look at them in their "home" but they can return the favor.

I think of the energy thing like water........It can be liquid, solid, or vapor; it is always around but never destroyed. Does that make sense? >^o.o^<

That's a wicked good analogy!! Reminds me of something my son asked me the other day too! He asked me if water could just disintegrate. I thought for a moment and said well, it changes form when put under certain conditions, ice, liquid, vapor, I said I suppose some water may get lost in the process. It's funny how the same concept can work in more than one place, LOL!!

Basic concepts always seem to work in more than one place. Maybe life (and death) is a lot simpler than we all make it out to be. Things do not have to be complicated to work. >^o.o^<

Yeah and have you ever noticed, the more complicated a thing is, the more things go wrong with it???

And the more complicated a thing is, the more off track people seem to go trying to figure it out. Guess people just do not like keeping things simple. Maybe complicating things makes some people feel smarter...who knows?>^o.o^<

Yes I never had it happen to me that I know of. I protect myself before going into the field. I would not rule out the possibility of it happening though. Clara
