I'm not sure but I swear I read somewhere that there is a spirit of a whaleman that's there because they have something of his in the museum. I do know that there are a lot of things that were owned by whalemen, so who knows? I asked a friend of mine who knows alot of haunted stories from this area and she can't recall any stories. All I know is I went to take pics of Seaman's Bethel, and ended up being "called" to the Whaling Museum where I "had" to snap off a few shots. I just tingled all over and had a strong desire to get into the building then and there. That doesn't usually happen unless something of a paranormal nature is going on there. I've been in there and I didn't feel it then. I'm not sure if it was even the building itself, maybe something from the past was just around that night. But I know that feeling, I was all alone on the street, it was dusk and it just had a feel to it that night! Maybe I was just excited, or maybe some of the past walked out to try and meet me?? I suppose it's anyone guess now, but I'm going to have to get into that building soon! I can't help it, but once I've felt that, I have to get in and investigate more fully! Maybe I can speak to the people who work there? I'll let ya guys know if I find anything out!

;D I went there years ago. the pics are posted on my website new england legends i have a page dedicated to it I went at dusk and took pics of this same crypt I was pulled to it. Funny how I look at your pics now and still see the faces in the door check out my photos from this cemeteryhttp://www.freewebs.com/newenglandlegends/ruralcemetery.htm Hi guys wasn't sure where to put this. I don't think I caught any anomolies, but I've heard something about this cemetery! Just wish I could remember what it was!! I read so much ghost stuff, if I don't write it down, I get them mixed up, LOL! Hope you enjoy! We had a blast, my race car driver and me!! Welcome to Rural Cemetery, established in 1845, though many graves are older than that! You'll see many names that are famous in New Bedford. There are Rodmans, Kemptons, Crapos, Russells, many more, I was lucky enough to find Captain Blackmer's grave and family plot. I would have to have a map of the cemetery to find anyone of historic nature. I've never gone in here before and was drawn in since I remember reading something about Rural Cemetery. The only thing is, I can't remember if it was a report of activity or just covering the fact that it is historic. I'll take you along on my race car driver and my walk through yesterday afternoon. I found this mausoleum quite interesting, dark and castlelike. There was no family name on the front and going around the back at my race car driver's request was surprised to find it was a public mausoleum. I didn't know they did that!! Note the date on the back where it names it as public. I thought this was an odd and intricate way to be buried!!

Awesome! I just checked them out! I guess both got a lot of the same pics, LOL! I don't recall seeing those trees with the crosses on them. How long ago were you there? I'd go again, and I'd go at night if I had another partner. Let me know if you're ever going back out there!!

There is a Quaker Meeting House cemetery in Bass River, here on The Cape. It was extablished in 1659, but the meetinghouse was built in 1809. So most of the markers in that particular graveyard are from the early 1800's. Although the Quakers did settle in this area, this is the only Quaker cemetery that I have come across so far. Might find more as I work my way down-Cape. >^o.o^<

Wow!! That's really old lildeb! Too bad they didn't use markers!! I can't imagine finding a stone from 1659! Though I guess we've got to have some around that are that old somewhere!! We did have a lot of quakers but we had other religions too that did use stones. I wonder what is the oldest stone in Mass? I've got more pics from the Long Plain Cemetery and the Acushnet Cemetery, there's some old graves in there too, but the oldest I could find that was legible I think was 1716. Guess I'll have to keep poking around until I find the really old ones! I'd like to find Sarah Brown too, and see if she really existed in Acushnet!! When I get a chance I'll post those pics for you guys, too!
